Our Story

Pretty Good Moms was created in August 2017 by founder, Katie Read, just four months after her first daughter was born. Realizing that her support system lacked and she only knew other parents very loosely, she sought after a local group to join. After reaching out to her lactation consultant and requesting to join a local mom group led by the consultant, Katie was told that she could join the Facebook group if she were able to come to the in-person meetups. Unfortunately, due to our country’s broken parental leave system, Katie had been back at work full-time since her daughter was just 7 weeks old, and all of the meet-ups were on weekdays during the day. Katie quickly realized that most of the local groups only catered to stay at home moms, and working moms were left to fend for themselves with no community. So, she set off to create a small group of women that she had admired from afar. She created a Facebook group and added a handful of moms she only knew socially or from social media, and it took off from there. Katie’s mission for the group has always been to make it as inclusive and judgement-free as possible, as there are so many different parenting styles and daily struggles we are all dealing with. Pretty Good Moms is private Facebook group, meaning you must be added by a current member. The group is not searchable on Facebook, which is what helps us keep it a safer spacer than larger groups. Pretty Good Moms is a community of diverse and wonderful moms, most of whom live in Louisville, Ky., but we now have several who live in cities all across the US. Pretty Good Moms has also expanded to two subgroups: Solo., which is a group for single moms, and PGM Swap/Buy/Sell, which is our own mini-marketplace where goods and services can be traded and sold to a community that feels more like friends & family than strangers. There are many exciting things on the horizon for Pretty Good Moms, so make sure you sign up for our email list to get the latest news.
